There have been many philosophers through out history. One of the most important philosophers who focused on political philosophy was Thomas Hobbes. Thomas Hobbes lived from 1588 to 1679, and he helped to create the foundation for liberal ideals and values through out his work. Some of the most important ideas that Thomas Hobbes studied and taught included the rights of people as individuals, the equality of men, and the fact that the government must truly get its power from the people that it governs. These are the ideas that helped to make Thomas Hobbes one of the most impactful philosophers in history.
The practices that Thomas Hobbes preached through out his life are still among the most important priorities to societies around the world today. Many groups of people are still fighting for individual rights. Furthermore, there are still many groups of people who are fighting for equal rights within a society. While people use social groups to help to identify them within a society, these identities and qualifying facts also work to segregate people out from other groups as well. Look at religions, race, gender, etc. All of these identifying factors help to make people unique and it helps them to find his or her place within society. However, it also puts the person in a situation where he or she might be discriminated against. Thomas Hobbes believed that people should be able to embrace all that makes him or her unique, while still being able to be treated equal. While this philosopher believed in the power of the people he also talked about how the government should be in control of the people, military, justice system, and other parts of a society. The stipulation that made his studies and teachings unique; however, was the fact that he believed that all of the power has to come from the people that the government is taking care of.
While Thomas Hobbes was a huge advocate for equal rights among the people of a society, he was also all for the idea that a government should be in control of the people that are in the society. Thomas Hobbes was famous for teaching the rights of people as individuals, the equality of men, and the fact that the government must truly get its power from the people that it governs.
